Kripalu Yoga

Join Latifa Befanis for an hour of Kripalu Yoga.

ripalu Yoga is an interplay of body, mind and energy. Within the physical body is a subtle flow of rhythmic, energy pulsations that we call prana, or life force. Even the most insignificant thought can disturb or block this flow of energy, creating imbalance or even disease. Every act of the body is invariably accompanied and strongly influenced by mental and emotional conditions, the awareness of which forms the more subtle aspect of the practice which includes physical postures, breathing techniques, deep relaxation and meditation. By fully experiencing and objectively observing your physical, mental and emotional experience, blockages begin to dissolve, energy is freed, and healing can to happen on all levels. Each day, as you encounter and release layers of stress, pain, and unconscious resistance lodged in the body, you progressively accelerate the natural, internal healing processes that enable you to awaken to the higher levels of emotional stability, mental clarity and physical well-being.

Cost is $10/person. Reservations required: guzik@cic.us

The New Era of Machine Intelligence

Synopsis: After billions of dollars and decades of research, we are at a tipping point to finally cracking the code on conscious artificial intelligence. A.I. is poised to transform our society as did the internet years ago. We are already using A.I. when we use speech recognition software and Google Translate, among many other apps and services. Virtually all of the largest software and social media players are striving towards integrating some form of A.I. into their product and service, including Facebook, Twitter, and Microsoft. Today we have Robotic helpers, driverless cars, problem solving A.Is and we're just getting started. Machine Intelligence has the potential to usher in a new age of technology like we've never seen before that will have an impact on job markets, income inequality, and the economy. In this discussion we'll look at problems that robots can and can’t solve today and the future effects that robots will have on our economy and our personal lives. The good and also the dangers of A.I. that we'll need to face. Join us for a deep learning discussion and ask yourself; Are you ready for this new era of artificial intelligence?

How The Hell Did You Do That?!

Octavia Yearwood is a multi-medium artist, author, and motivational speaker from New York City. She has built a career curating transformational spaces using performance art, choreography, and visual arts. For this work, Americans for the Arts named her the "American Express Emerging Leader" in 2016.

Yearwood's debut book, "How The Hell Did You Do That?!" is targeted at overlooked foster youth, sexually abused youth, muted youth, and those who are seeking to break past adversity. How does a former foster child or those suffering from traumatic childhoods take their life back and transform it into everything they never thought was possible?

"How the Hell Did You Do That?!" shares stories from both childhood and adulthood, lessons and questions to continue the journey from liberation of the past to empowerment of the future.

Action Design: Siri Uotila

Creating and fostering more gender equal organizations is essential, yet challenging. Persistent cultural dynamics and deeply held individual beliefs are some of the key root causes of the inequality we see today, but research shows that de-biasing people’s minds is time-consuming and expensive. Focusing on structural solutions through behavioral design is a cutting-edge and proven approach to promoting gender equality.

Gender equality expert Siri Uotilla will discuss the latest insights from behavioral research and show how they can be translated into practical tools that advance equality in the workplace through improved sourcing, hiring, promotion and retention of talent.

Register here.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER:

Siri Uotila is a research scholar at the Women and Public Policy Program at the Harvard John F. Kennedy School of Government. She is an expert in promoting gender equality within organizations and in translating academic research into practical interventions to advance women in society. Siri has worked with Fortune 500 companies, nonprofits, and local governments to improve gender equality through such projects as researching culture and leadership at senior levels; designing a paid parental leave policy; and spearheading legislative advocacy to increase women’s representation on corporate boards. She also has experience in management consulting.

Siri has an MBA from Harvard Business School, a Master in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School, and a B.A. in Chemistry and Physics from Harvard College.

AGENDA FOR THE EVENING:

6:30 PM: Refreshments and socializing at CIC Miami.

7:00 PM: Introduction and presentation from Siri.

7:40 PM: Q&A with the audience.

7:50 PM: More refreshments and socializing at CIC Miami.

See you there!

There is a FREE parking lot adjacent to the venue. Entrance to the parking lot is on 7th Avenue.

ABOUT ACTION DESIGN MIAMI

Action Design Miami is part of the Action Design Network, a nonprofit, 12-city (and growing) international network of curious professionals passionate about the application of behavioral science and design to the improvement of people's lives.

Every month we explore ways to apply psychology to the design of products and services that help customers achieve their goals and have a better experience. Whether the goal is to help people save more money, get in shape, cut down on electricity usage, or learn a new language, our core pursuit is the same:

How can we use research in behavioral science to help users build habits and change their daily behavior?

Our explorations lie at the intersection of technology (UI / UX, data science), psychology (behavioral economics, positive psychology), and advocacy, and focus on exposing our members to cutting edge tools, research, and practitioners in each of these areas so they can apply the latest learning in action design in their respective fields.

This group is for designers, developers, entrepreneurs, economists, psychologists, marketers and others who are curious and passionate about helping people create positive change in their lives.

Her professional background includes publishing (print/digital), integrated marketing, branding, retail visual display and styling. She is in her 8th year serving on the board of AIGA’s Washington DC chapter, and in that time, she’s paired more than 60 mentors with young designers, and has overseen efforts to raise funds for students with financial needs.
