ComChats: Drinks, Snacks, and Marketing Growth Stacks with HubSpot

CIC, Startup Institute, and Hubspot's inaugural event will focus on how startups can leverage inbound marketing and sales early on to build the baseline for a successful and scalable business.

Many startups don't focus on these two areas, and miss out on valuable conversion and customer acquisition opportunities early on when scaling. We will dive into the methodologies behind Inbound marketing and sales, and provide a detailed example of how startups can leverage these approaches to build what we call "The Growth Stack."

Come early for networking, drinks, and to check out the gorgeous view at CIC on 50 Milk Street in Boston.

"What's Your Problem?" - Fabricate solutions with Fab@CIC experts

Have a "problem?" Want to fabricate a solution? Fab@CIC offers the tools and resources to create your own custom prototypes and designs. During this open meetup, Fab@CIC's resident experts can share their guidance on how you could use 3D printers, laser cutters and PCB circuit boards for your own projects. If you tell us your "problem" ahead of time, we'll try to match you with the best contributor in our network. Or, come and talk to the experts and learn what these machines can do.

Projects made in Fab@CIC include a "bicycle piano," custom programmed LED light strips, laser-cut parts for drone prototypes, battery packs for wearables, vinyl signage, custom sized tool boxes, funky sunglasses, and more. We're excited to hear what you want to make and see how we can help!

Please bring your laptop, curiosity, and any documentation you may want to share. See you there!

The Japan Society of Boston presents:

Paper Lanterns Film Screening and Q&A with producer Peter Grilli

On August 6, 1945, the atomic bomb exploded over Hiroshima, Japan. Among the estimated 140,000 casualties that day were 12 American prisoners of war, held since July 28 at the Hiroshima Military Police Headquarters after being shot down during a bombing raid. For decades, the families of these 12 Americans were never informed about the fates of their loved ones.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of Shigeaki Mori, himself a hibakusha (A-bomb survivor), the names of the 12 Americans are now included in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, and their relatives have learned the truth. Paper Lanterns documents Mr. Mori’s story and his dream of reaching out to the families of these lost airmen.

GREENLIGHT INSIGHTS: XR by the Numbers and Next Computing

It's a surprise to no one that we are in the midst of a virtual revolution.  With new and improved headsets, software and VR tools coming to market all the time, it can be difficult to keep up with all of the innovation.  As our lives move faster, we collaborate with other innovators globally, and the demand for more powerful, smaller technology to support the latest and greatest VR development increases, the need for hardware to support all of these demands simultaneously is brought to light.

NextComputing will demonstrate a few of the coolest examples of VR optimization on their systems – Mix Master Mike’s Moon Base Invasion and Torus Media’s impressive Ski and Horseback Riding 360 stabilization demos using Canvas 360 Pro VR Workflow software for Adobe After Effects.  They proudly partner with OZO, AMD, Torus Media and Voysys and are in discussions with other VR innovators to continue to respond to the convergence of the VR, high performance, miniaturization, globalization and mobile lifestyle movements.

Are you interested in 3D printing, but not sure where to start? Or, are you an experienced 3D printer looking to fine tune your design skills? Come to Designing for 3D printing, a two part series where you will learn basic design principles for 3D printing in week one, and troubleshoot and fine tune your design in week two.

After these trainings, and with some outside work in between, you will walk away with a ready-to-print design. You can then schedule a time to come into Fab@CIC during Walk-in-Wednesdays to print out your design - two free hours of printing included in your ticket cost. (E-mail fab@cic.us to schedule.)

After this training, you will also be able to take our 3D printing test to qualify for using our machine on your own. Ticket cost includes both training dates, which are:

•Wednesday, August 9th, from 5:30-7:00 pm
•Wednesday, August 16th, from 5:30-7:00 pm

TrepCamp Demo Day

Come support young entrepreneurs from around the world as they participate in TrepCamp's  Demo Day!

TrepCamp began in 2013 as a bi-national entrepreneurship training program under the framework of the Mexico-United States entrepreneurship and innovation Council (MUSEIC), and is now one of the leading entrepreneurship training programs in America with participants of 20+ countries.

Each year, young aspiring entrepreneurs, called ‘Treps, travel to top innovation ecosystems for a 3-week program to tackle key global challenges guided by an entrepreneur in residence and the help of mentors. In parallel, they connect to the host ecosystem through seminars with experts and by visiting incubators/accelerators, innovation centers, and leading companies.

The Treps select the challenges that most interest them among an initial list of 36 challenges based on the global megatrends and build teams of 5 people to solve them.
After 3 weeks of intense work the participants pitch their projects at the Demo Day to a panel of judges and receive feedback and insights.
