CIC’s Growing Massage Therapy Program

By

Many of you may have met CIC’s long-time massage therapist Shakti Rowan.  Shakti has been with CIC for 7 years. She is also, incidentally, part of the in-house massage therapy program at Google, where we understand she was at one point ranked the #2 massage therapist in all of Google!

We are pleased to announce that due to heavy demand, we have brought in a second massage therapist and have expanded the hours that massage therapy is available at CIC.  What follows is an overview of CIC’s massage therapy program today.

*** CIC’s Massage Therapy Program ***

CIC’s massage program includes two In-House Therapists: Shakti Rowan and Dawn Lamonica.  Both therapists work for themselves in space provided by CIC.  You pay them, and CIC does not add a markup.  For this reason, their services are exceptionally reasonably priced for the quality of the massage available ($70/hr).

Both therapists provide a variety of therapeutic work such as integrative massage, swedish massage, reflexology, deep tissue massage, reiki, hot stone therapy, and prenatal massage.  Some of the benefits often associated with massage therapy include pain relief, improved energy, better circulation, relief of tension and just an overall sense of well-being.

shaktiShakti Rowan LMT graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Therapeutic Massage in 2003 studying Swedish, Deep Tissue, Therapeutic, and Sports Massage. Shakti began working at Cambridge Innovation Center soon after she graduated and has been working with the CIC community ever since. She has a private practice in Jamaica Plain and also works at Google’s office in Kendall Sq. offering corporate massage.

Committed to a lifetime of learning she has continued her studies in many modalities. Shakti has completed the Reiki 1,2,3 trainings and is certified in Reflexology. She is also certified in Prenatal Massage, and enjoys working with woman from pre-conception to post birth and has had the honor of being present numerous times during the birthing process. Studying Shiatsu, Barefoot Shiatsu, Ashiatsu, and Tui Na, Shakti offers an integrated massage that may use several of these modalities within a session.

Shakti has also completed a 300 hour program in Hatha Yoga through Harvard University. She can offer assisted stretching during massage sessions and, if requested, she will give clients recommended stretches to take home.

Shakti is also a member of the Vadalna Tribal Dance Co. teaching weekly classes out of their home studio in Jamaica Plain as well as around the country at festivals. Vadalna’s dance performances can be seen both locally and nationally. Shakti can be reached here.

Dawn LamonicaDawn Lamonica LMT has recently come on board as the newest member of the CIC massage therapy team.  Dawn is an experienced massage therapist based in the Roslindale neighborhood of Boston. Dawn has treated runners and athletes, pregnant and post-partum women, as well as individuals suffering from chronic pain, injury or repetitive stress disorders. She has studied Neuromuscular Therapy, Oncology Massage, Thai Massage and Reflexology, and is a certified Level 2 Reiki practitioner. Dawn is licensed in Massachusetts and Florida, nationally certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, and is a professional member of the American Massage Therapy Association.

Dawn received her BA in Psychology from Florida International University, then pursued therapeutic massage at Educating Hands School of Massage in Miami, FL. She has worked with the Touch Research Institute at University of Miami School of Medicine facilitating massage research focused on pregnant women and pre-term infants. Additionally, she has experience working in a chiropractic office and has partnered with other therapists to provide wellness massage for corporate and public events.  Dawn can be reached here

Please note the new location of the massage room.  It is now on the 9th floor.  To reserve a massage, please go to massage.cictr.com
